How to Start Monitoring a Fermentation on a Fermentation Hub

Notes

Materials/Requirements

  1. Wi-Fi enabled computer, tablet, or smartphone
  2. Clean, Sanitized, and Installed Tank Connector and Filter - See How to Clean and Sanitize the Tank Connector
  3. Clean and Sanitized Fermentation Hub - See How to Clean and Sanitize the Version 2.0 Fermentation Hub [w/ Video]
  4. Attach Fermentation Hub to the Tank Connector - See Version 2.0 - How to Attach the Fermentation Hub to the Tank Connector Assembly
  5. Wort/fluid level is above the sample port the Tank Connector is installed in the tank

Version 2.0 - Purge Fermentation Hub of sanitizer once it's attached to the Tank Connector - OPTIONAL

The Version 2.0 Fermentation Hub only contains ~100 mL of fluid, so you can skip this step if you so choose, and proceed to the next section.  Note that you will need a sample valve attached to the Tank Connector Assembly to complete this step

  1. Open the sample valve on the Tank Connector, holding a bucket in front of it to catch any fluid
  2. Press the LED button on the front of the Fermentation Hub twice to turn on the pumps.  The Hub will be purged of sanitizer in about 10 seconds
  3. Press the LED button on the front of the Fermentation Hub twice to turn the pumps off
  4. Close the sample valve

Connecting your Fermentation Hub to the Tank in the BrewIQ Dashboard

  1. Using your Wi-Fi enabled computer, tablet, or smartphone, log in to the Sennoslink Web Console
  2. Navigate to the Tanks page in the left-hand column menu
  3. Identify the tank you've prepared to monitor and click the EDIT button
  4. Using the Devices drop-down, select the SensorHub you're going to be using to monitor this fermentation
  5. Press the UPDATE TANK button to complete

Start Fermentation

  1. Log in to the Sennoslink Web Console
  2. Navigate to the Fermentations page in the left-hand column menu
  3. Click on the green ADD NEW FERMENTATION button at the top left of the page
  4. Fill in the following fermentation details:
    1. The location you're monitoring
    2. The tank you're monitoring, with the Fermentation Hub already attached in the Console
    3. The brand you're monitoring
    4. The fermentation or batch name
    5. The time yeast pitched
      1. Note - you're required to enter a yeast pitch time to begin monitoring.  If you haven't pitched yet, enter an estimate of when you'll pitch. If you need to edit the pitch time later on, you can do so by navigating to the Fermentations page and clicking the Edit button next to the fermentation
    6. Any alerts (See How to Set Fermentation Alerts - Per Fermentation or Per Brand)
    7. Additional parameters/Yeast information - Optional
      1. Culture/Yeast strain
      2. Target pitch rate
      3. Cell count
      4. Volume pitched
      5. Yeast generation
  5. Press the START MONITORING button - this will activate the pumps and start your fermentation.  You will see the first data points populate on the fermentation page shortly
